Salient Themes reflected in the Voluntary Organisations (Amendment) Act, 2018

Session Content

The Voluntary Organisations (Amendment) Act, 2018 sought to reflect experiences gained between 2007 and 2018 relating to voluntary organisations, the office of the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations and related bodies. Necessarily combined to this review, due to  connections in subject matter, were the rules on fiduciary obligations and the Second Schedule to the Civil Code. This is because most voluntary organisations are fiduciaries of charitable purposes and take the form of either foundations or associations. At the same time, there were also experiences gained on private law issues of a general nature. These required development and clarification and were addressed in the same law.
