Course Outline

  • To review key points of the Insurance Distribution Directive
  • To understand the implications of the IDD’s implementation for Insurers, Re-Insurers and Intermediaries
  • To review MFSA’s position and approach to implementing the IDD
  • To enable participants to prepare for compliance with the new IDD/MFSA regulations.

Compliance Officers and persons connected to the distribution of Insurance Products within Insurance Companies, Managers, Brokers and Agents requiring a detailed knowledge & understanding of the IDD.

Lecturers :

Mr Julian Boffa is is an Insurance Regulatory Advisor within the Insurance and Pensions team of GANADO Advocates, focusing mainly on re/insurance, corporate governance and regulatory matters. Julian has over 20 years experience working within the Insurance industry, with his specialisations being in the Marine Insurance and Insurance Management fields.

Dr Philip Mifsud is an Associate within GANADO Advocates’ Corporate Department, who regularly assists clients in all corporate matters including advice on governance matters, assistance with financing, M&A transactions, voluntary dissolutions and various other transactional projects. Philip also works in the IP, TMT & Data Protection practice area and regularly gives advice on matters such as registration of trademarks, copyright law, review of franchising agreements, drafting and review of software licences.

Mr Stefan Josef Vella is an Insurance Regulatory Advisor within the Insurance and Pensions team of GANADO Advocates, working closely with the legal team with focus on insurance and re-insurance regulation and corporate matters. Stefan advises the firm’s clients on regulatory matters, insurance intermediaries and captives, and also assists clients in general corporate matters. Last year, Stefan analysed the impact of the Insurance Distribution Directive on local insurance undertakings for his Masters dissertation and has since been keeping a close eye on its developments.

Dr Elaine Magri is an Associate within the Insurance and Pensions team of GANADO Advocates, with particular focus on insurance and re-insurance regulation and corporate matters. Elaine regularly advises the firm’s clients on regulatory and legal matters, insurance intermediaries and captives and also assists in general corporate and company law. Elaine has been following the developments of the Insurance Distribution Directive from the very initial stages and has since analysed closely the requirements emanating from this Directive.
