This lecture will provide a basic overview of the law on marital breakdown applicable in Malta. It will focus on the main grounds for separation and the legal consequences attached to the different grounds, citing local jurisprudence as practical examples. The topic of divorce will also be treated by examining the components of the legislation and by identifying any ways in which it may impact on marital breakdown settlements post October 2011.
