Fundamentals of the Law on Child Protection

Course Outline

This lecture will focus on basic legal concepts relating to child protection, highlighting allocation of legal responsibility. It will cover the main elements of parental responsibility as defined in the Civil Code and the issues that arise when parents lose authority over their children, including the application of a Care Order under the Children and Young Persons (Care Orders) Act. The session will also refer to other related legislation which impacts on child protection, including the most recent 2012 Protection of Minors (Registration) Act.
